New marketplace for used passenger vessels in Europe launches without broker fees
Navium (mynavium.com) is a new online marketplace where owners sell used passenger vessels directly to buyers across Europe. It was built in 2026 in collaboration with Lux-Werft at Niederkassel-Mondorf on the Rhine, one of Germany's longest-established passenger-vessel yards. Neither seller nor buyer pays a broker commission.
Listings cover day-trip and excursion vessels, saloon and restaurant ships, ferries and cabin vessels, from the Rhine, the Danube and the North Sea and Baltic coasts to the Bosphorus. Each vessel has its own page with technical data, certification, operating area, photos and direct contact to the owner. The site is available in German and English. A guide covers pricing, ship certificates, vessel types and propulsion, and a 42-term nautical glossary complements it.
A market without price transparency
Germany alone had 971 day-trip passenger vessels and 51 cabin vessels at the end of 2024, according to the German inland shipping association BDB. The number of German companies operating passenger vessels fell from 754 in 2020 to 584 in 2024, a drop of 23 per cent in four years (Destatis). At the same time the fleet faces its biggest technical change in decades: the Rhine states' Mannheim Declaration targets a 35 per cent emissions cut by 2035 and a largely emission-free inland fleet by 2050, any replacement engine must meet EU Stage V, and converting a passenger vessel to battery-electric propulsion costs between roughly one and seven million euros depending on size. An owner who will not or cannot convert needs a buyer for whom the vessel still makes sense. That buyer exists, often in another region or another country. Until now this ran through personal networks and brokers. Navium makes it public and comparable. Background and sources: Electrification meets an ageing fleet.
Direct contact instead of commission
Owners create their own listing; photos are processed automatically for the web. Interested buyers contact the seller directly from the listing page. A shipyard sees at every delivery what happens to the old vessel. Navium grew out of that experience.
